As the weather starts to cool down and the leaves start to change color, it’s time to cozy up with some new items for your home and yourself. Check out this oh-so-cozy shopping guide for all the best things to get you into the autumn spirit!
Why do a fall shopping list? Because I’ve been doing some fall shopping and thought I’d share some of the cozy things I’ve found, purchased, or added to my own personal list!
I tend to lean a bit minimalist, but I find that I’m in a bit of an “upgrade and replace” phase of life right now. I’ve been married for over a decade, it’s been over 5 years since we bought our house, and at this point, some things I own are just plain getting worn out. (I just had to let go of my beloved 10-year-old, super-cozy sweatpants…At the end, they were held together by love and determination!)
And if I’m already shopping, why not share some of the cozy, autumn goodness I’ve run across?
So, in no particular order, let’s get to it:
Christmas PJs get all the love, but why not cozy up in some new fall pajamas?
Picture this: A rainy, Saturday morning in early November. A warm cup of coffee and a record on the turntable. Cozy, flannel pajamas that you’re in no rush to change.
Current status: On my shopping list!
Bonfires are so nice…but what if it’s raining? Or windy? Or you just get a late-night smores craving?
Picture this: It’s the weekend and it’s just a little too windy outside for a fire, but you don’t have a fireplace in the house. It’s cold, though, and it’s the perfect night for a fire! Tabletop fireplace on the coffee table! (Or somewhere safe from kiddos and pets, if that’s a concern for you.)
Current status: I have a fireplace, but I wish I’d had this before that was the case.
I love sweater weather, but it’s also jacket weather! An olive-colored jacket is absolutely a staple of mine. In fact, I wore my first one until the snaps literally fell off…and then immediately replaced it. It goes with everything – dress it up, dress it down. And the olive color will pair perfectly with all of your other fall clothes.
Picture this: You’re headed to the pumpkin patch or a fun fall festival, then out to dinner with friends. As fall days tend to do, it’s a little warm right now, but you just KNOW that if a random cloud passes by, the temperature will drop…quickly. You need a jacket, and this one goes with EVERYTHING.
Current status: Have owned one for years and will replace with this one when the time comes.
I get pretty serious about my warm drinks when the weather gets chilly. Especially my morning coffee. So I usually try to treat myself to a new fancy mug each fall. If you’re similarly serious, this is my pick for this year.
Picture this: Morning coffee on the front porch, next to the pumpkins and mums, just watching the neighborhood wake up before you start your day.
Current status: As soon as another coffee mug breaks, I will be adding this one to my collection.
Fall is the official start of soup season! Hooray! I’m solidly in the “soup is a meal” camp; sorry Kenny Bania. (Yes, that was yet another Seinfeld reference.) But this soup and sandwich combo is SOUPER cute. 😉
Picture this: You come home from work. It’s getting dark earlier at night and you’re a little tired. But the soup you started in the slow cooker this morning is ready and smells wonderful. Throw together a simple sandwich and dinner is ready!
Current status: On my list!
I love the look of a chunky-knit blanket. I love a weighted blanket for relaxing. But I just recently found out that some very smart person has decided to combine both of those ideas!
Picture this: You have a stressful day, it’s chilly, and you just want to zone out for a bit. You curl up on the couch, put on some mindless tv, and wrap yourself in a big, thick, heavy blanket. After a little time, you begin to feel calm again…and maybe a little bit sleepy.
Current status: On my list, but would already be in my house if I didn’t already have a chunky blanket and a weighted blanket.
Cute? Check. Perfect for nights by the fire? Check. Bluetooth option? (Just in case you don’t want to drag out the vinyl…) Check. This suitcase turntable is cozy and chic.
Picture this: Dark fall evening, sitting by the fire with friends, glass of your favorite relaxing thing in your hand. You all take turns playing records (or just hooking up to Bluetooth on your phone) and telling stories.
Current status: I have one! Not this one, but this guy is so cute.
In the mood for some fall baking? Make those cookies extra cozy with these fall-themed sprinkles. I saw someone using these the other day and they were just the cutest idea!
Picture this: You’re going to a friend’s house for a fall party and want to bring something, but don’t quite have time to make your go-to recipe. So you grab some slice and bake cookies, a little frosting, and these guys instead. Quick and cozy shortcut!
Current status: I WILL have them. 😉
Add some cozy fall vibes to your home with this lighted leaf
Picture this: The days are getting shorter and dark comes quicker every night. But your house is festive and glowing, with small warm lights and an orange-y glow from the leaves! So cozy.
Current status: Have them!
Pumpkins are the epitome of fall, but they’re not very good to snuggle with…or are they?
Cute? Check.
Fallish? Check.
Functional? If you like to snuggle with pillows, check.
Current status: On my wish list.
I LOOOVE when the nights get cool enough to cuddle up in flannel or fleece sheets. How about adding some fall-vibes to that bedding?
Picture this: You like to decorate for each season, but the bedroom usually gets neglected, since visitors usually aren’t in there. This one is just for you, though. Add some fall sheets, maybe a seasonal duvet cover and you are ready for a sleeping-in morning!
Current status: Arriving soon!
This may seem a little odd on this list, but how many times have you gone to light one of those fall candles and your lighter didn’t work? Or the matches disappeared? Enter the rechargeable lighter.
I don’t have THIS exact lighter – my husband bought ours and I have no clue where he got it – but the idea is the same. Plug it in occasionally and never worry about trying to find a working lighter when it’s candle-o’clock.
I fully admit that this robe is a bit of a splurge. I also fully admit that I have had trouble convincing myself to take it off (and even wore it during a zoom meeting the other day)… It’s THAT cozy.
Picture this: Most of the season has been chilly, but this morning, it’s COLD! So you snuggle up in a cozy robe until you’re warm and toasty again.
Current status: Own it. Love it. Want to live in it. (May or may not be wearing it right now…)
Speaking of morning coffee, this maple-flavored coffee is perfect for a chilly, slow morning on the front porch. It’s warm, cozy, and will get you into the autumn spirit.
Picture this: You’re feeling particularly festive today, so why not make your coffee just a little bit more seasonally appropriate? The trees are changing color, there’s just a little bit of frost on the ground outside, there are pumpkins on all the front porches you can see…and you’re drinking a very fall-feeling cup of coffee. Perfectly cozy.
Current status: Halfway through the Pumpkin Spice version and planning on trying the Pumpkin Pie variety next.
Oversized sweaters and fall just belong together. Casual, comfortable, cozy, and cute!
Current status: In my cart.
This cozy throw blanket is perfect for snuggling up on the couch. It’s soft, and comfortable, and comes in a variety of colors to match your decor.
(Sherpa blankets don’t tend to wash very well, so go inexpensive, love it intensely and expect to replace it eventually.)
Current status: This will probably be this year’s fall / Christmas throw blanket, but I haven’t decided. If you try it first, let me know!
I have a thing for making my house smell like the current season, whatever that season may be. But for autumn, I love to add in a woodwick candle! If you’ve never tried one, the wick is actually made of wood – obviously. So it has a little crackle-sizzle sound when it’s lit.
Current status: Love it!
Okay, decorating your porch is nothing new – pumpkins, hay bales, corn stalks, and all of those things. But if you want to go a little extra, why not switch out your welcome mat for the season? It’s a little touch, but little touches are the most fun.
Current status: I haven’t even decorated my front porch yet…🤦♀️
Picture this: It’s COLD, but you’re resisting the urge to turn the furnace up – because, you know, winter is coming soon enough. You’re bundled up, but socks just aren’t cutting it tonight. Time for some snuggly slippers!
Current status: On my list!
It gets dark early in the fall…cozy solution? Add more lights! We do it at Christmas, why not in the fall?
Current status: If I ever DO get my porch decorated this year, this will be in my cart. For now, it’s on my wish list.
Wash your hands! We’ve all been a little extra diligent on hand-washing the last few years, but why not make it a cozier experience with this fall-scented hand soap?
This is another of those tiny touches. But if you have visitors, I can almost guarantee they will notice and appreciate it.
(If you don’t use it all this year, just lock the lid, put it in a ziploc – in case it leaks – and pack it away for next year.)
Current status: Have been using this scent for several years now.
These leaf-shaped cookie cutters are perfect for making fall-themed cookies, if you lean toward cookie recipes that you roll out and cut. I don’t.
What I DO use them for is cheese! I love a good cheese / charcuterie board when friends come over. Cheese in little leaf shapes? Super-seasonal.
(Yes, you will have extra cheese pieces after you cut them out – just toss them in a baggy and save them for the next thing you make that requires shredded cheese.)
If you haven’t noticed, I love coffee. But I love tea equally! And flavored teas have a lot more variety than coffee tends to offer.
Picture this: It’s mid-afternoon and you’re starting to hit that 4pm slump. Coffee sounds kind of good, but maybe something a little lighter? So you decide to settle in with a hot cup of apple cider tea to finish up your day.
Current status: On my list (but only until I finish another tea I have in my pantry.)
I love throw blankets, especially during the chilly months. I don’t love clutter, so those extra fall throws need a home! When you’re not snuggled up, just toss them in a cute basket. No clutter AND it’s a cute way to keep them within easy reach.
Picture this: Chilly, rainy weekend. No plans. Hot coffee. Jigsaw puzzle. It sounds like such a lovely fall day inside!
Current status: This exact day will be happening in my very-near future.
There you have it! A cozy fall shopping guide to give you some ideas for the fall season. From cozy blankets and slippers to festive doormats and candles, grab your favorite item – or just borrow the idea. Time to get cozy!
